The Citizen of the Year and SKN Inspire Award are special awards given to members of the Skaneateles Community every other year (2017, 2019, 2021 etc).

Citizen of the Year:

For the second time, we will also present the SKN Inspire Award to recognize a rising leader who has chosen a path of volunteerism, service, and involvement in local organizations.  This honor will go to someone under the age of 40 with approximately 5 years or more of dedication to helping and inspiring others in the Skaneateles community.

Each year, we have been awed and humbled by the number of nominations of amazing people. No doubt, the selection process will be challenging because of the quality of the candidates.

If you know an outstanding candidate for either of these awards, please send a letter of recommendation. Some desirable characteristics for nominees:

  1. Longevity in our community
  2. Volunteer work that has had a significant impact on our community
  3. Contributions that have helped to improve the quality of life in our community
  4. Work that has been done without the expectation of reward or recognition, but mainly for the joy and satisfaction of helping to make our community a better place to live.

To help the nomination process, please be as detailed as possible. Express why you admire the community service of your nominee. Tell us how the candidate exhibits the characteristics of someone deserving to receive the honor.  Describe the community service work and include the names of organizations who have benefited from the nominee’s involvement.

Submissions will be accepted from March 1st through May 1st. Choices will be announced in May and a wonderful event will be planned for the Fall.

Thank you for taking the time to consider and highlight our unsung heroes.  We look forward to your letters and emails. Please submit nominations to
