Salary Range: $32,000 -$42,000 per year + tips

GENERAL: The House Manager is the face of the Post and responsible for our
customers’ experiences. He/she must organize bar and house operations and
events on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis throughout the year. He/she is
expected to cover at least one bartending shift per week and should generally,
when present at the Post, greet customers, learn about their preferences, answer
questions, recommend menu items, prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic
beverages and food (or oversee the same); sell and pay-out winnings from
approved games of chance, and handle or oversee basic housekeeping duties.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES: Presents menus; serves and helps customers in
all facets of the Post experience. Must possess strong communication and
organization skills; can quickly respond to customer requests, give directions, sell,
and pay-out winnings for pull-tab and other authorized games of chance, and direct
kitchen and event operations. Must be observant, detail-oriented, and courteous
while ensuring customers enjoy themselves. Must also oversee Post marketing,
social media, calendar, general operations & advertising.

* Act as SLA manager for the Bar; check identification to ensure customers are the
legal age to purchase alcoholic beverages. Train bartenders.
* Check membership cards; ensure guests are signed-in by active members.
* Welcome customers, “read” and listen to people, remember beverage and food
concerns and train bartenders to remember preferences and how to properly take
customer orders and log payments.
* Mix and serve drinks when on a bartender shift or as necessary; carry food and
drinks from kitchen to tables as necessary.
* Collaborate/coordinate with kitchen/bar staff to ensure appropriate scheduling
and event coordination.
* Deal with complaints or problems with a positive, can-do attitude. Keep
Commander updated on any significant issues that may arise.
* Issue bills and accept payment, and train staff to efficiently do the same. Secure
all Post monies and/or train staff on proper procedures for this.
* Take inventory and order supplies; ensure bar and tables are well-stocked with
items such as napkins, straws, condiments, etc. Ensure kitchen operations are
well planned and supplies are stock for all purposes.
* Adhere to all food safety and quality regulations; SLA and Gaming Regulations.
* Correctly handle cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensuring charges are
accurate and returning correct change to patrons; balance receipts with the cash
register tape/record – train staff to do the same.
* Oversee the maintenance of a clean work and dining area by removing trash,
cleaning/sanitizing tables and the bar, and re-setting serving utensils and other
table items; sweeping as required. Train staff to do the same.
* Maintain building security and schedule all necessary NY Dept. of Health and
other seasonal inspections. Report to the Post Commander and EXCOMM all
upcoming needs and events, and generally coordinate a positive Patriotic
experience for all visitors and members.

Security: Must successfully complete a criminal background check & a valid NYS
drivers’ license and own a car.
Must be a member of the Post, Auxiliary, or SAL in good standing.
Minimum Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent;
restaurant, bar, cocktail lounge, house ops supervisory experience preferred.
* Positive attitude and excellent communication skills; can quickly respond to
member and customer requests. Ability to deal with diverse needs and people.
* Hands-on supervisory experience, cashier duties; familiar with POS systems.


* Able to stand, walk, bend, etc. for extended periods, and lift up to 50 lbs.
* Competencies with social media, calendar, marketing and website operations.
* Must have a keen eye for safety and cleanliness.
