6/29/2022 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

The quilts and fiber artworks of Syracuse artist Vanessa Johnson in her exhibit "In God's Voice: A Celebration of the Spirituality of Harriet Tubman" examine Tubman’s faith in nature, God, and her supporters as she led enslaved people to freedom. Johnson’s exhibit is part of the Emerging Artists Project, a joint program of the Schweinfurth and Cayuga Museum that is in its second year. Artists present their work in both locations, and the institutions offer a discounted joint admission ticket so visitors can see both shows. The Schweinfurth is open 10a to 5p Wednesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 5p Sundays. The Cayuga Museum is open 11a to 4p Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Here/Hear Exhibition

6/29/2022 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

“Here/Hear,” a solo exhibit by Quinn A. Hunter, focuses on erasure of Black history in both the South and the North. Hunter’s exhibit contains work from two recent series. In “I See You Now, I Hear You Then,” she presents chandeliers and rugs she weaved by hand out of hair, referencing antebellum plantations that ignore their slave-owning past. In “Paradise: The Myth of a Liberal North,” she examines the destruction of two Black neighborhoods in Detroit that were destroyed to build a highway. Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
